Walking

There are unlimited opportunities to walk, from the enthusiastic to the expert level!

We are on hand and happy to advise you of all the local hidden treasures. One great walking trail that runs by the bothies is The Cateran Trail.

The Cateran Trail is a fully waymarked circuit through the Perthshire and Angus glens in the heart of Scotland. Some of these routes follow the same ones used by the Caterans – fearsome cattle thieves who raided Strathardle, Glenshee and Glen Isla from the Middle Ages to the 17th century. The Cateran Minitrail samples some of the best bits of the main trail over a two-day adventure. It includes the trail’s highest point over scenic Strathardle and Glenshee, the remains of hut circles and Iron Age buildings. For those interested in geocaching, there are 20 special caches and a Cateran Trail Geocaching Passport. Find the caches and complete the passport to earn specially commissioned bronze or antique silver geocoins.

The bothies are right next to the trail; FIND OUT MORE . .

Cycling

Greengairs Highland Bothies are situated on a designated cycle friendly single-track road.

The entire area is covered in similar quiet roads through the local Glens. It is entirely possible to go out on a summers evening, for hours, and see very few cars. We have enough routes to keep the keenest of bikers busy.

The area also has some very well thought out routes for all abilities of mountain / road bikes. There are many good sources of information, try the Blairgowrie Paths Network, Cycle UK bike trails (Perth and Kinross), and Trailforks Perthshire mountain biking trails as examples.

Places to hire bikes include: Alyth Cyclery and Cycle Hub (Coupar Angus).

Golf

There are too many wonderful golf courses in this area to name them all but here are three on our doorstep which will not disappoint :

Fishing

If fishing is your choice, then look no further.

Perthshire has some of the finest fishing rivers and lochs available for all abilities.

The River Tay is internationally renowned for its Atlantic salmon fishing; it is one of the best salmon rivers in the United Kingdom. The extensive river system comprises many smaller tributaries which are also excellent salmon fisheries, and include the Earn, Isla, Ericht, Tummel, Garry, Dochart, Lyon and Eden. Try out Ledyatt Trout Fishery!

Many local Lochs offer boat hire and equipment hire.

Glenshee Ski Centre

Glenshee Ski Centre is 3,504 ft of mountain adventure that beckons to skiers and snowboarders alike. alike. From the invitingly easy to the surprisingly steep, Glenshee offers the most extensive skiing and snowboarding in Scotland. Steeps and glades, pisted and unpisted, open bowls and narrow gullies, no matter your ability, Glenshee's mountains have your name on them!

With this much choice, it is easy to see why Glenshee is the UK' s premier ski centre.

Glenshee ski centre is situated between Blairgowrie and Braemar on the A93 “Snow Road.”. We have skied there since childhood, and can offer any advice needed for a great Scottish Ski day out.

See the centre’s Live Webcam.

If you need to hire equipment, check out Blair Ski Hire in Blairgowrie for all your needs.

Swimming in the open.png

Open water swimming

Perthshire is packed full of swimming opportunities in clean, clear mountain lochs and rivers.

A local favorite, such as Clunie Loch, is a lovely sunny evening swim (bottom right), or maybe tackle a river swim such as the River Tay (middle right) or a swim in Loch Tay (top right).

Loads of other gems are to be found all around.

Look out for swim events through the summer, if you fancy them.

Phillip can offer good advice on lots of spots nearby.
